Dr. Clark Hunstad
I was born and raised in Aberdeen, South Dakota. I am a general dentist with a tremendous interest in orthodontics and family dentistry in Parker and Tea, South Dakota. This year we have opened a new practice in Tea, South Dakota to allow easier access for many of our patients and staff who drive from Sioux Falls.
I received a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree after attending dental school at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities School of Dentistry. I am formally a part-time military dentist with the South Dakota Air National Guard and I own and operate a private dental practice in Parker and Tea. I am board eligible for diplomate status and a fellow with the American Orthodontic Society. This eligibility required me to present from start to finish, one of my completed orthodontic cases, passing a comprehensive written orthodontic exam before the board of diplomats, and obtaining over 550 hours of accredited hands on clinical training and didactic continuing education in orthodontics after dental school.
I have taken a great interest in helping my patients achieve the smiles they have always wanted. I do this through my curiosity and deliberate self study in addition to traveling throughout North and Central America to over 200 hours of continuing education courses per year in new and interesting topics in the ever expanding and changing field of dentistry. Additionally, I ensure that the whole staff is trained and competent in the tasks they attend to in helping all of our patients. We have been straightening teeth in Turner County for over 8 years and we are excited to have expanded our practice to Tea, South Dakota.
I have been an officer, fighter pilot, and dentist in the United States Air Force and South Dakota Air National Guard for over 27 years where I have flown missions worldwide and instructed other pilots in the F-16 fighter aircraft. I received a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado where I also excelled as a member of the Wings of Blue Parachute Team. While I was active duty in the Air Force, I obtained a master's degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and completed numerous military education courses. Prior to attending dental school I received additional science credits through South Dakota State University, the University of South Dakota, Augustana, and the University of Sioux Falls. My interest in science, engineering, and technology directly applies to modern day patient care that I practice in orthodontics and restorative dental care.
I have 2 children following in my footsteps. My daughter, Lauren, is attending University of Sioux Falls pursuing a profession in Physical Therapy. My son, Eric, is attending Creighton University School of Dentistry on his way to be a dentist. He is a former member of my South Dakota Air National Guard unit and holds a FAA private pilot license. Both of my children can be seen helping in our dental practice when they are home from college.
I am a citizen and resident of rural Turner County, South Dakota and have 2 furry pets, Max and Joe, who keep me busy when I'm home.
